Keep headers/logos under 125 pixels high. It takes up valuable viewing space, especially for laptop users, that is best left for the good stuff to appear"above the fold" Take a cue from the big companies, simple logos done well say it all. This is our #1 pet peeve - screaming logos and headers!

Backup plug-ins is also important. You need to backup all the files and database you can bring back your own site like nothing happened.
Exclude pages - This plugin provides a checkbox,"include this page in menus", which is checked by default. If you uncheck it, the page won't appear in any listings of pages (which contains, and is ordinarily restricted to, your webpage navigation menus).
Install the WordPress Learn More Firewall Plugin. This plugin investigates web requests with simple WordPress-specific heuristics to recognize and prevent most obvious attacks.
Implementing all of the above will probably take less than an hour to finish, while creating your WordPress site considerably more immune to intrusions. Over 1 million WordPress websites were this past year, mainly due to preventable security gaps. Have yourself prepared and you're likely to be on the safe side.
